Take the ultimate southern

Culinary Road Trip

View Featured Slideshow

The new Southern food movement shows no signs of slowing down, with more restaurants in Georgia, Virginia, and the Carolinas nabbing more and more top spots on culinary best lists every year. So get some friends, hop in the entirely new 2018 Ford Expedition, and prepare for some of the most memorable meals of your life. We teamed up with Ford to bring you this one-of-a-kind expedition.

Chef Mashama Bailey is the culinary mind behind The Grey in Savannah, where dishes like the sizzling smoky pig keep diners coming back for more.

The best way to experience all that Southern kitchens are cooking up is to take an extended road trip up the southeastern coast. Start out in Atlanta then head east and north to sample the best dishes from the region’s hottest new chefs, who are putting a modern, unique spin on the foods and recipes that they grew up loving. The entirely new 2018 Ford Expedition’s available Dual-Headrest Rear Seat Entertainment System means that the time spent in the car is almost as fun as eating your way up the seaboard. Here, a restaurant-by-restaurant guide on the best of what the new South has to offer.

KNOW BEFORE YOU GO

Try to make reservations whenever possible, as many of these restaurants are fully booked weeks in advance.

Charleston and Savannah both contain fascinating historic districts. Take a walking tour to burn off a big meal.

If you can’t nab a table at Chef & the Farmer, show up at Vivian Howard’s other restaurant, Boiler Room, which doesn’t take reservations.

The Ford Expedition’s display enhances your safety— and sound. The 360-degree camera with split view will help you navigate restaurant parking lots while the available 12-speaker B&O PlayTM Premium Audio System by HARMAN will keep the music rolling between pit stops.
